Epicureanism is an ancient Greek philosophy founded by Epicurus (c. 307 B.C.) that advocates for a life of modest pleasure, friendship, and freedom from fear to achieve inner tranquility.
It is a materialistic, atomistic, and Hedonistic system that defines the highest good as the absence of physical pain and mental anxiety.
Types of Pleasures
Kinetic
The active, fleeting pleasure of satisfying a desire.
Katastematic
A stable, static state of pleasure defined by the absence of pain (Aponia) and freedom from anxiety (Ataraxia).
Katastematic is the ultimate goal, while kinetic is a means to achieve it or a temporary addition.
